Any defects can be corrected
with a 1:10 water -wood glue mixture, which when mixed with earth, forms a type
of polyfilla. The interior and exterior walls are treated with a diluted mixture
of this solution, 1:20 glue-water, sprayed on to harden the wall finish. Finally
a 1:4:8:8 wood glue:resin:lime: water paint should be applied. (Photo 19)
Roof
The walls can support roofs of any
shape, pitch or material: timber, steel or concrete. The only requirement is the
use of a continuous timber wall plate to spread the roof load evenly onto all
the walls.
Finishes
Any type of finish can be used on
rammed earth walls.
Rammed earth has the advantage that a variety of details can be
carved, moulded or sculpted from its walls. Details such as architraves, shelves,
cupboards and even fireplaces are possible, limited only by your imagination.
