Proposal

Basic Grid and the Plot
The proposal is developed on a 8.00 x 20.00 m (160.00 m2) plot; and the structure and construction components are based on a 0.8 m2 modular grid.

The main layout of the house, 2.40:2.40 x 3.20:1.60:3.20. is based on the flexibility of the grid.

The Building
The prototype is a 71 m2 semidetached two storey house with 3.20 m clearance to the site boundary.

The same plan may be used for terraced housing a 5.00 m frontage.

Ground Floor
The ground floor has 40 m2 of constructed floor area. The main entrance is through the porch into the living room. The split-tread staircase and the bathroom act as buffer to the dining room and kitchen areas.

In this particular example the hammock is strung across the porch, as a traditional security measure in the Pacific culture.(Fig. 2)

The design of the elements is such that the kitchens are back to back to the kitchen of the next house, this save connection costs.

The doors and windows both have the same standardised design to minimise costs and resources.

Every consideration is given to maximise the use of space.
