80x700x1,000 mm, which are fixed to the floor joists and roof
beams.
Split bamboo boarding is wired to the timber frames and
plastered with a 1:2:4 white cement-lime-sand mixture. Any defects can be
corrected with a 1:10 water : common wood glue mixture, which forms when mixed
with earth, a type of polyfilla. The interior and exterior walls are treated
with a diluted mixture of this solution (1:20 glue : water), sprayed on to
harden the wall finish. Finally a 1:4:8:8 wood glue : resin : lime: water paint
should be applied. (Fig. 12)
The Staircase
This is a compressed staircase i.e. it rises 2.5 m in only 1.6 m on
plan. This is achieved by using 2 compensating tread plans, efficiently reducing
vertical circulation space to a minimum floor area.
The treads, 730x320x40 mm, are made of hardwood supported by
two 40x400x1500 mm bearers running along the base of each balustrade.
Roof
The roof comprises two types of prefabricated truss made up of 20x160
mm timbers glued and nailed together. The gables are closed off with vertical
lengths of 20 mm ø bamboo. As the structure must be lightweight, micro concrete
roof tiles are recommended. (Fig. 13, Photo 04)
Finishes
In the use of the wattle and daub construction system it is possible
to use any type of finish, even those which are applied to conventional concrete
constructions.
